The Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research: Do Violent Video Games Make Kids More

Violent? (2018, July).

This article is on the correlation between video games such as Fortnite and increase in aggressive
behavior. The piece goes on to explain how researchers wanted to see if kids' level of empathy towards
others changed after playing a battle royale video game.

Researchers brought together 20 kids, half female and half male, and had them play battle royale games
against each other for an hour. Afterwards, researchers would have the same group of kids do group
activities. Some kids seemed more aggravated towards the other kids and had a shorter temper, but
researchers concluded that there was not enough evidence to solidify a stance on the matter.
There were too many variables that could not be controlled so there was no conclusive answer.

This article is similar to Moyer’s article on if video games make kids more violent or aggressive. One big
question I have for this article is how can researchers completely control every variable in order to reach
consensus over the correlation between violent behavior and violent video games? This article is helpfu
l because it shows just how hard it is to pinpoint where kids and preteens violent behavior stem from.
